WE WOULD LIKE TO REASSURE OUR PARENTS
As a result of the terrible tragedy recently which resulted in the death of a 2 year old child choking on a grape during a family visit to a restaurant, Eagley School House Nurseries would like to try to reassure our parents regarding the safe food preparation and cooking at our Nursery.
All fruit and vegetables served to the children are washed thoroughly before use to ensure the removal of any pesticides. Fresh fruit is cut up into appropriate sizes for the children: grapes are quartered for babies, and halved for toddlers. Cucumber skin is removed as it is hard for babies and children to digest. Vegetables are also cooked first and then cut into appropriate sized sticks to ensure the safety of our babies.
Five Steps to help save someone’s life
• Encourage the child to cough
• Give up to 5 sharp back blows between their should blades
• If they are over one year-old, give up to 5 abdominal thrusts
• If they are under one year old, give up to five chest thrusts
• If that does not work, call for an ambulance, repeating the steps above until it arrives
