Dear Parents/Carers
I am writing to you on behalf of all the Management Team to update you on the current events, activities and achievements the Nursery is working towards.
Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Beth Kennedy, Deputy Manager at ESHN1. Beth will be supporting Julie Gibbons, Deputy Manager, ESHN1 and will primarily be based in our Preschool Room.
Exciting news – Eagley School House Nurseries recently welcomed some visitors from Bahrain who were looking at good practice within the UK. The day was really enjoyable and all the staff worked extremely hard to ensure they were made to feel welcome and that the visitors learnt lots about how our Nursery works!
During their visit they took the opportunity to officially open our new BUG HOTEL (we have one at both settings). Hopefully our Bug Hotels will encourage the children to explore and gain an understanding of the world.
I can advise that the ESHN1 has now actually been successful in obtaining a Quality Mark which validates the quality of care and service we provide to our children and parents. We are also still taking part in the BHEYS healthy eating/physical activity award and we will keep you informed as to our progress. Our menus will be changing slightly to ensure the very best nutritional quality for the children. We will of course keep you informed and we do hope we can count on your support here. Our BHEYS champions are Norma Collin (ESHN1) and Christine Edge, Senior Cook (ESHN2).
Beth has also initiated our PARENT/CARER OF THE MONTH COMPETITION in relation to healthy eating. Details are on our web site and Facebook page, but please feel free to ask in Nursery if you need any further information.
In addition to supporting healthy life styles for our children we are introducing “CHANGE4LIFE” – “10 MINUTE SHAKE UP ACTIVITIES”. Using Disney themes, the activities are based on short ten minute exercise sessions designed to support children’s physical development. Parents can actually order or download their own packs directly from the website.
Eagley School House Nurseries are constantly striving to give our children “a voice” in their own learning and we have introduced child-led projects whereby the children can decide what they would like to do, they vote towards their favourite ideas and then they are supported to carry out the tasks independently. This method supports the EYFS characteristics of effective learning i.e. having their own ideas, making links and choosing ways to do things.
We have some new resources across both settings. At ESHN1 with the help of our Caretaker, Paul, we have enhanced our dinosaur area further to make it more engaging for the children. Also as previously mentioned, we have now created our BUG HOTELS at both settings. For the arachnophobias amongst you take a look at our web page – if you dare!
I am pleased to advise that Sharon Walton, Manager and Janet Fitzpatrick, Business Manager, have now completed and passed the “Safer Recruitment – Accredited Level 3” award. I have completed the training and will shortly undertake the test. Sharon, Janet and Beth have also attended an Induction Briefing training to improve and strengthen our recruitment and induction protocols.
Staff from ESHN1 and ESHN2 will be undertaking training to support children with autism. ESHN2 staff has already attended “Quality Provision for 2 year olds” training and ESHN1 are due to attend this training in September. We are also currently undertaking on-line PREVENT training which aims to protect children from the risk of radicalisation and is part of our wider safe guarding duties.
My self and Sharon are actively involved in the Bolton Alliance Early Years Professional’s Conference and this is taking place on 26th September 2015 at the Last Drop Village Hotel. The aim of the conference is to support Early Years Practitioners to improve their Early Year’s practice whilst working with children 0-3 years of age and to cascade this knowledge to their staff.
As we are constantly striving to improve our child protection protocols, Eagley School House Nursery 2 have recently installed CCTV cameras and parents will soon be able to “buzz” their child’s room whereby they will be given access to the premises. The system is not yet up and running but we will keep you informed.
We hope to provide an Information evening for parents/carers during mid-September. The information will centre on transition to school, the BHEYS award, communication and progress and achievement. We also hope to have a “food tasting” session after the sessions.
We are always happy to receive continuous parent/carer feedback and to this end we have developed evaluation/transition sheets for your completion. Please let us have your feedback which we will be delighted to take on board to improve our service.
